Meet Chris

Christopher M. Hearsey

Democratic Candidate
Maryland's 6th Congressional District

Chris Hearsey is an aerospace executive, research scientist, space law and policy scholar, and Democratic candidate for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. Chris is a science enthusiast and avid chess player, who played college hockey for American University. He has lived in Montgomery County for over ten years with his wife, Suzanne. Chris and Suzanne were married in Baltimore at the Maryland Science Center in 2012.

Chris is the former Director of Legislative Affairs for Bigelow Aerospace, a private space technology company based in Nevada, and managing director of its D.C. office. He is the former chairman of the board of the Astrosociology Research Institute (ARI), a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit dedicated to promoting the study of how space travel affects human society. He is also the founder of the peer-reviewed Journal of Astrosociology, serving as its first editor-in-chief. From 2007 to 2017, Chris served as a senior research scientist with ARI.

Growing up in Southern and Central California, Chris was raised by his single mother who worked incredibly hard as a secretary and office manager to provide for Chris and his younger sister, Tiffany.

Chris graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2006 with degrees in mathematical economics and political science, and a minor in physics. Chris received a master’s degree in 2008 from American University’s School of Public Affairs. He earned his law degree with honors from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2013. He earned a second master’s degree from the University of North Dakota’s Space Studies program in 2015 and, has also served as as graduate fellow at the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC.

Following Donald Trump’s election as President, Chris began to worry about what this change would mean for Maryland and the nation. As a concerned citizen, Chris feels that it is his duty to help prepare Maryland for the major economic changes ahead by providing a fresh, innovative voice to many of our long-running national problems.

Chris is deeply disturbed about how our country has taken an alarming turn in the wrong direction and how the current political race to the bottom serves nobody, especially not the hard working people of Maryland. In Congress, Chris will bring his unique background to bear to find workable solutions to urgent national problems. Chris will work hard every day to ensure that Maryland is prepared to succeed in the 21st Century.
